Copy Rules
Overview
Copy Rules is designed to streamline the management and automation of iLogic rules across multiple components in an Inventor assembly. Rules are essential for automating design logic, enforcing standards, and customizing component behavior. This command enables you to select a source component and copy, run, or update one or more rules in other components, ensuring consistency and reducing manual effort. You can choose to copy rules, execute them, or update existing rules to match the source, with options to run suppressed rules as needed. The dialog provides flexible rule selection, command options, and advanced component filtering via Filtered Select, allowing you to target only the components and rules you need. Copy Rules supports batch operations, making it ideal for propagating design logic, updating standards, or automating repetitive rule management tasks in complex assemblies. The command handles rule existence, suppression, and updates gracefully, ensuring robust and reliable rule synchronization throughout your project.
How It Works
- Choose the source component file by picking a component in the assembly or using the file dialog box.
- Select rules to process from the available list.
- Choose the command: Copy, Run, Copy and Run, Update, or Update and Run.
- Component selection is filtered as needed.
- Rules are copied, run, or updated in selected components according to the chosen command.
Usage Instructions
- Open the assembly and select the source component.
- Click the Copy Rules button in the Configure panel.
- Select rules to process and choose the command.
- Click OK to copy, run, or update rules in selected components.
Troubleshooting
- If rules are not copied or run, check that the rule names and component selection are correct.
- Use Filtered Select for advanced component selection.
- Check the Run Suppressed checkbox if you want to run suppressed rules.
Examples
- Copy rules to all components: Select rules and use Copy.
- Run rules in selected components: Select rules and use Run.
- Update and run rules to match the source: Use Update and Run.
